Kathmandu: The government has issued a reassurance, urging the public not to panic in response to the new variant of the coronavirus recently identified in India. Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, stated that there is currently no cause for alarm.

The new variant, initially detected in Kerala state, India, primarily affects the respiratory system. Dr. Budhathoki emphasized that there is no need to worry, and the existing infrastructure, including ICUs and oxygen plants established during the COVID-19 pandemic, can be utilized if necessary.

While a new variant has been identified, Dr. Budhathoki clarified that there are no new symptoms associated with this variant, and the symptoms related to respiratory problems are consistent with the new strain. Health desks at checkpoints and international airports are on standby, and individuals with respiratory issues are advised to undergo special supervision.

As a precaution, patients with long-standing respiratory problems are being recommended for gene sequencing. The World Health Organization has officially confirmed the presence of the new COVID-19 variant in Kerala, India.
